Following the construction works on the Portagem – Coimbra-B section of the Metrobus, carried out by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), a traffic closure will be implemented from Wednesday, March 25th, on the road connecting Av. Fernão de Magalhães and Rua Pinto dos Santos, adjacent to the old Choupal tunnel.

The attached image shows the alternative road routes during the intervention, which is estimated to last until June 5th.

The recommended alternatives are via the connection from Rua do Padrão to Rua Pinto dos Santos and via Rua Padre Estevão Cabral.

Throughout the period of the traffic restriction, pedestrian routes will be properly signposted.

This traffic restriction is due to the need to continue the works to convert the underpass of the Choupal Tunnel into a grade-separated road crossing, which will improve traffic flow between Av. Marginal and Av. Fernão de Magalhães.

In this area, the Açude station will be built, serving the northern part of Avenida Fernão de Magalhães and Choupal, as well as functioning as a modal interface with other public transport, including SMTUC (Coimbra Municipal Transport Services).

Metro Mondego and the Municipality of Coimbra appeal to the public for understanding regarding the temporary constraints that this phase may cause, reaffirming that these works are contributing to the modernization and functionality of the city.

To facilitate adaptation to this new phase of the works and minimize any impact on traffic, the use of navigation applications such as Waze or Google Maps is recommended. These platforms already include updated information on the temporary changes, allowing drivers to choose the most suitable routes in real time.
