From Wednesday, June 18, Avenida Fernão Magalhães will enter a new phase of the works on the urban section of the Metrobus and the renovation of the underground infrastructure of Águas de Coimbra, continuing the work carried out last summer on this avenue.
This phase, which is estimated to last 1 month, involves the temporary reorganization of traffic, according to the scheme shown in the image.
This intervention will therefore require the narrowing of the avenue, with traffic limited to just one lane in each direction for a distance of approximately 75 metres.
The SMTUC bus stops will remain in the locations currently established and pedestrian traffic will continue to be safeguarded, as will the circulation of emergency vehicles.
In the previous intervention, work was carried out on the roads on the eastern side, namely renovation work on the water and drainage networks and the construction of technical communication and energy infrastructures for the Metrobus system. The intervention that is now beginning will involve the construction of the channel dedicated to the Metrobus, the repaving of the road, the improvement of public lighting and the reorganisation of signage and safety.
To facilitate adaptation to this new phase of work and minimize potential impacts on traffic, it is recommended to use navigation applications such as Waze or Google Maps. These platforms already include information on temporary changes, allowing drivers to choose the most suitable routes in real time.
